Atomic Oscillator Strengths in the Vacuum Ultraviolet
We have developed techniques to measure branching fractions in the vacuum ultraviolet using diffraction grating spectroscopy and phosphor image plates as detectors. These techniques have been used to measure branching fractions in Fe II that give prominent emission lines in astrophysical objects.
متن کاملA new atomic beam source: The “candlestick”
The design of a novel-type of atomic beam source which provides for long term, stable operation at high emission rates is reported. The heart of the design is the “candlestick” where liquid source material is transported by capillary action to a localized hot emission region. A surrounding cavity kept at the melting point for the source material shields the vacuum chamber walls from this region...
متن کاملPhotodegradation of perfluorooctanoic acid by 185 nm vacuum ultraviolet light.
The photodegradation of persistent and bioaccumulative perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in water by 185 nm vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light was examined to develop an effective technology to deal with PFOA pollution. PFOA degraded very slowly under irradiation of 254 nm UV light. However, 61.7% of initial PFOA was degraded by 185 nm VUV light within 2 h, and defluorination ratio reached 17.1%. Pseud...
متن کاملLinac Coherent Light Source Electron Beam Collimation∗
This paper describes the design and simulation of the electron beam collimation system in the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). Dark current is expected from the gun and some of the accelerating cavities. Particle tracking of the expected dark current through the entire LCLS linac, from gun through FEL undulator, is used to estimate final particle extent in the undulator as well as expected b...
متن کاملBeam Lifetime of the Pohang Light Source
Like other third generation light sources, main contributions to the be am lifetime of the Pohang Light Source come from the beam-gas scattering and the Touschek effect. The beam-gas scattering lifetime is measured with extremely low stored current in the long train of bunches. By investigating the vertical gap dependence of the beam-gas scattering lifetime, it i possible to decompose the beam-...
